Web design and development

Your website is a first impression.
Let’s make it a great one.

Custom website builds, free health checks, and everything in between. Whatever shape your site’s in, I’ve handled it before.

First impressions are everything.

No matter how good your business or service is, customers are going to judge you by your website. And since most small businesses don’t have a dedicated marketing person, the site gets handed to whoever has a free hour (or the CEO’s nephew) to slap something together. Customers can tell.

A site that’s slow, hard to navigate, missing the information people came for, or broken on mobile costs you customers. They click over to a competitor and don’t look back.

Let’s make your website a first impression that works. Keep scrolling to learn how this works.

Three problems that cost you customers.

Most people who leave a website do it for one of a few reasons, and they rarely tell you which one. These three come up the most.

Slow load times

When a page takes more than three seconds to load on a phone, 53% of visitors give up and leave. Most of the time it traces back to a few oversized images and server settings nobody tuned.

A rough mobile experience

Most web traffic now comes from phones. Tap targets too small to hit, text you have to pinch to read, a menu that won’t open: on mobile, any of these sends people to a competitor instead.

Confusing layout and navigation

People decide fast. In a survey of 1,000 users, 38% said they leave a site when the layout is unattractive or hard to follow. If visitors can’t tell what you do or find what they came for, they don’t stay to work it out.

Free website health check

It’s free, and it comes first.

You’ll get a clear read on where your site stands and a short list of what to fix first. No obligation to go further.

Here’s how this works.

Every project follows the same three steps, from first look to launch.

Start with a free health check

If you already have a site, I go through it and show you what’s slowing it down, driving people away, or hurting you in search. If you’re starting from scratch, we talk through what you need and who you’re trying to reach. Either way, you get a clear, honest picture before any work begins.

Improve it, redesign it, or build new

Sometimes it’s a short list of targeted fixes. Other times the site needs a full redesign, or it’s cleaner to start over with a new build. You’ll know which one you need, and what it costs, before committing to anything.

Launch and support

Most projects go live in 2 to 3 weeks from when I have your content. After launch, an optional monthly care plan keeps things updated, backed up, and running the way it should.

Headshot of Joel Jones

I build your site as a developer, a marketing director, and a visitor.

I’m Joel Jones. For over a decade I’ve worked in web development and digital marketing, currently as a Director of Digital Innovation and Marketing Solutions. That background means I catch what most people can’t: what’s slowing your site down, what’s costing it in search, and where visitors quietly give up.

I’m also just someone who uses websites all day, and I know how little patience a visitor has for a slow page or a menu that doesn’t make sense. I build your site for that person: the customer who showed up with a question and won’t wait long to get an answer.

Don’t just take my word for it.

I’ve worked with hundreds of happy clients over the past decade. Here’s a few of the things they had to say.

“Working with Joel has been an exceptional experience! He is incredibly responsive, attentive, and professional. His rebuild of our website has exponentially enhanced the user and admin experience, increasing speeds, improving functionality, and upgrading security.”

Jessica Barnett, Posture Shift

“Joel is a true professional, not only because he knows how to design and execute a website, but because he thinks of things you don’t, and worries a few steps ahead of you to ensure the site is functional, efficient, and elegantly engineered.”

Terri Trespicio, Speaker, Brand Advisor, and Author, Unfollow Your Passion

“Working with Joel has been an amazing, pleasant, and fabulous experience. Everything flows with ease! Thank you for your talents and integrity.”

Questions you might have.

How much does a website cost?

It depends on what you need. A new site typically runs $1,800 to $2,500 for around five pages. A rebuild or redesign is quoted per project, since it depends on what is already there. The free health check is the fastest way to get a real number for your situation.

How long does a website take to build?

Most projects go live 2 to 3 weeks after I have your content and any brand materials. Timelines can move faster or slower depending on how quickly content and feedback come back during the build.

How fast will you respond?

Usually the same day. If you write in late at night, expect a reply the next morning instead.

Do you use AI to build your websites?

AI may be used as a tool for speed in coding or site auditing. But like anything that requires tools, not every tool is the right one for the specific job. Some sites won’t use any AI at all, while others may. It comes down to the specific complexity of the website being built. What I never do is outsource my own creativity, experience, or proficiencies to a tool.

What’s included after the site launches?

An optional monthly care plan covers updates, backups, and small changes so the site stays secure and current after launch. It’s not required, but most clients find it worthwhile once the site is live.

What’s a free website health check?

A no-cost review of your current site across SEO, speed, security, accessibility, content, and mobile usability, with clear findings and next steps. If you’re starting from scratch, it’s a short conversation about what you need and who you’re trying to reach instead. There’s no obligation to move forward with a build afterward either way.
